Community “Documentary Filmmaking Redux” :Some Flies Are Too Awesome For The Wall

This episode couldn’t have come at  a better time when all the fans are freaking out about NBC rescheduling of Community. This week’s episode reminds us of why we love Community so much, because it is special and we feel special for watching as if we are all a part of a secret club or as Jeff says in the pilot ” you’ve just stopped being a study group(audience) you’ve become something unstoppable, I hereby pronounce you a Community ” and that is what we the fans are…A Community

This week we got to see all our Greendale favorites back  fat Neil, magnitude,Leonard and others.Abed’s camera captures all the story on film and what better person to have an insight than Abed. The episode opens with a dusty commercial from the early 90s that includes Chuck’s Ryan McPartlin and  the dean was asked to update and he employs the help of the study group including a reluctant Jeff who’s blackmailed to agree with what I don’t know because it seems like it is something that the study group knows about.

Abed’s tagging (i don’t know what it’s called when someone’s name is written under their footage  in a documentary) Pierce Hawthorne: Local Curmudgeon,Troy Barns:Best Friend,Jeff Winger : Former Lawyer,Britta:  Anarchist Cat Owner (she will love that), Luis Guzman:president of the ceramics club 1993 ,Leonard: Up and Comer,Shirley Bennett :Moral Compass, Annie Edison: script supervisor( Abed never messes with Annie does he?!) Ben Chang: self proclaimed under-study .

Annie is the script supervisor and as she is describing her job to Abed’s camera please notice the writing on the board behind her where allscheduling is happening in  UPPER CASE , this was a detail i loved then again Community is in the details. Jeff is Dean Pelton and to he tries his best to sabotage the commercial by giving a hilarious impression of Dean Pelton while dressed in a bald cap in front of the Luis Guzman statue (how the mainstream audience don’t eat this up is beyond me!) . Troy and Britta are playing diverse students in Greendale and let me stop here and note though I had my doubts in the begining I am loving those Troy and Britta’s awkward crush on each other, who would’ve though you’ll find Britta in the midst of something cute .Pierce is fighting with well..himself as he demands the start treatment…is this a portrayal of what working with Chevy Chase is like?

Jeff’s impression in front of the Luis Guzman statue and his call to his lawyers warning them of the illegal use of Luis Guzman’s image backfires as Guzman calls the dean to appear in his commercial…things go downhill from there.the dean decides to rewrite the script  and as Abed points out the dean’s perfectionism is what will cause his downfall. As time passes the commercial deviates from its purpose and becomes and experimental art movie that has no point and the actors are placed in a psychological terror as they try to comply with the deans demands. the setting of shooting in the school made me feels as if we are backstage on the Community set  as the creator Dan Harmon strives for the best and driving himself and everyone else insane( especially if he’s working on a themed episode), the scripts keep changing while shooting and the suits keep calling because they are behind schedule and over budget, but the difference here is that the dean comes up with idiocy but Abed the true filmmaker is the one that strikes gold .The Dean’s insanity is coddled by Annie’s strive to be a teacher’s pet, she defends him aggressively and refuses to acknowledge his insanity, loved the scene where he hands her an orange and says “scene four”.

Jeff on the other hand is caught in this insane spiral with everybody else as he is now Dean Pelton, he’s a method actor now and is in his heart a bald man with bald friends “Lights…camera..DEAN” . Jeff’s psychological state is more fragile than ever, he and Annie share that, they are always the fastest ones to snap and crack under pressure of the trivial but when the going gets tough, they are there to take charge. The one who ends the madness though is Britta as she puts a stop to the commercial and demands that the Dean let them go in a great setting of smoke that reminded me of season one The Vampire Diaries…making things intense,.The Dean is left with only his thoughts and Abed’s camera.

Luis Guzman shows up to post-apocalyptic Greendale (boy that show really likes to trash the school) , we haven’t seen the outside campus of Greendale for a while,it is good to remember that there is sun out there.Luis Guzman soon recognizes what’s wrong with the Dean’s vision; the Dean thinks he’s too good for a school full of nitwits and not so many students and he’s ashamed of it. because when you have something special that is rare and precious like a great school or a genre-bending TV show with an amazing cast and crew you should recognize that it is miracle  to have that all in one place and you should appreciate it instead of trying to change it appreciate it foe what it is. Luis Guzman says to Dean pelton “This is a special school, you don’t deserve to be here” and as he says that a flyer behind him reads “THE SAFE WAY IS THE BEST WAY” I love that about community and it’s amazing art department. NBC chose the safe way and embraced it’s fear of staying number 4, it thinks it is too good for a low rated show …..Alas

As sad music plays the study group watches a montage of a naked Dean Pelton (Notice the Jeff Winger underwear from the pool table episode in season one),the Dean is covered in the ash of his burnt university degree, Abed points out that story telling is the filmmaker’s choice and sometimes happiness can be found in sadness. On that note the study group horrified by the above mentioned montage decide to embrace dean Pelton and surprisingly Jeff is the one who invites him in as my favorite music from the show plays, I call when Jeff kissed Annie music because I don’t know if it has a name, I was told by a fellow community fan that it is called “Greendale is where I belong” love that music.

This episode was all heart, a kiss from the cast and crew of Community to their fans and a showcase of Jim Rash’s talents, thank you Megan Ganz ( the episode’s writer) for always delivering the best and for loving Community as much as we do. When this episode was written I am not sure how much the writers knew about the rescheduling and I might be reading too much into thing but hey it’s my blog… But seriously how can so much heart and dedication be overlooked? a special nod to the brilliant Joe Russo who directed the episode…my hero

Community is where I belong….

All New Community Greendale gets more exposure: why you as a human being must watch

in the midst of all the community rescheduling madness let’s put all the frustration aside and take the time to rejoice in tonight’s all new Community 7/8c  on NBC. In this episode entitled “Documentary Filmmaking :Redux”  Dean Pelton directs everyonr in a commercial fopr Greendale and the power from being behind the camera goes to his head: When the school board asks Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) to make a new commercial for the school, he enlists the study group to star in his production. As he gets swept away with the project, more of the student body is pulled into the fray, including Magnitude (Luke Youngblood), Fat Neil (Charley Koontz), Garrett (Erik Charles Nielsen), Leonard (Richard Erdman), Star-Burns (Dino Stamatopoulos) and even Greendale alum and genuine celebrity, Luis Guzman (“How to Make it in America”). Meanwhile, Abed (Danny Pudi) films all the activities for a documentary. If I had done my homework right it is possible that in this episode Annie and Jeff pick up on the Troy/Britta chemistry and they do not like it one bit.How does dean Pelton blackmail the study group into participating? the cast is teasing that this episode will be Jim Rash’s (Dean Pelton) Emmy submission. tune in and remember to watch it live , DVR it or buy it on itunes, itunes sales helps shows to stay on the air

#six seasons and a movie

Community Benched For Mid-season: NBC rides the bad decision train

I thought of posting the minute I heard the news but I couldn’t. NBC’s decision to bench Community and not include it in it’s mid season was tragic. It is in its core a business decision, Community does not have the ratings the network needs but that does not mean people are not watching Community. Community’s audience is mainly young viewers who watch it on Hulu,Netflix and itunes which are not included when the nelson ratings are calculated. Nothing has been set in stone yet NBC did not release a return date for Community but it is probably coming back in the spring maybe sometime in March which for me is an unbearable amount time to wait. The internet is going crazy with this new and if it has any indication it indicates how many fans Community has and even though I am reading those fans (including me) are being called annoying for loving the show TOO MUCH. well, there isn’t too much of love let me tell you that but the fans are so dedicated to the show for a reason, the show takes you into its private world, it is hard to watch Community and not get addicted and attached because of how much attention the show pays to both the joke and the story. this is a show that has a lot of heart, it feels like those people are your family in a world of your own creation. I did not like Community when I first watched it because I did not know any of the actors other than Alison Brie and of course Chevy Chase and i did not finish the pilot because I was watching it while i was attending to a family commitment and escaped to my bedroom to watch it, but a while later I got back to it  and watched the first season with appetite, then went back and re watched it. to this day i watch an episode of Community daily and every time I enjoy it more.

there must be people who are O.K about Community, you might not be as crazy as I am about it but is it possible you will allow it fade into TV oblivion? Community is not the type of show the coddles the audience and spells every single details for them, it respects its audience intelligence and even if you are not a TV nerd and you don’t understand some refrences that are made you will still laugh ate the joke because it works on both levels. The cast and crew are committed into making this show their pride work and when watching it you feel that energy and love that the cast and crew has for it’s own show.

I’ve been reading some terrifying and reassuring predictions on the internet, some think show will air it’s 22 episodes then go under, other predict that the show will be dropped by NBC and be picked up by another network or even it’ll go on cable. Some are reassuring themselves with the theory that NBC is benching Community to give Whitney a chance and if it tanks Community will be aired on Wednesdays in a more friendly time slot (it airs 8 pm on a Thursday and competes with The Big Bang Theory, the X Factor and The Vampire Diaries) which is a theory I am good with because Community needs to get away from The Big Bang Theory.

I really hope this is not the beginning of the end for Community because it does not deserve it, it is different from what TV has to offer but not alien and though NBC has backed up this show for 2 seasons I think it just needs to do more. here are some articles and websites that are trying to save Community if you care to take a look and please do.

1. Sign a petition to save the show http://www.save-community.com/

2. A very heart warminmg letter to NBC http://www.aoltv.com/2011/11/15/community-save-greendale-letter-to-nbc/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

4. Sign a petition to save the show http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/sixseasonsandamovie/

5. Email NBC to let the network know what you think  http://www.nbc.com/contact/general/

I will leave with this, if you make a little effort to save this show you’ll make a lot of people very happy so please help as much as possible to get this show back on the air.

thank you,

A Community fan who just wants her show back

Whitney “Getting To Know You”: Blue Balls The Size Of A Basketball Game

Though Whitney doesn’t fit with the Thursday night line up and does not by any means match the comedic brilliance of Community, Parks and recreation and The office  I have to admit, I am starting to like Whitney. The story and jokes are repeated and what’s bringing me back is the fact that I can’t deny it’s funny and I especially have to recognize the comedic excellence of  Chris D’Elia who delivers every week. I am not denying that Whitney Cummings is funny, for me she is even adorable but she can be a little much sometimes and her material is all there for someone who is familiar of her stand up which can be a little boring because her jokes are about novelty as to say if you hear the joke again it will not be as funny. The comedy is about relationships, I know that, but what frustrates me is that there is no investment in supporting characters, they are commentators and audience, their life revolves around Whitney and Alex and seem to have very little going on in their lives.I don’t believe in unnecessary characters on any TV show because there are no unnecessary human beings and in comedy I prefer ensemble cast comedy than others. The story is the same every week though and I am not hating it but i see myself getting bored later, this week Whitney discovers that there are things about Alex that she did not know before; for example: Racket ball. she sets on playing racket ball with him so they can have shared hobbies together and ends up sucking at it then challenging him to a basketball game and beating him. the story is pretty safe as all Whitney’s stories, there is no way it will not be funny but it is not that great. It does not insult the viewers intelligence though, it know what it is and it’s very clear on its identity, so some people will hate it and others will love it but no one will be confused to what it is exactly.

Vampire Diaries “Homecoming” :Oh Stephan, what have you done?

The Vampire Diaries is famous for its twists and warp speed story progression but I swear this week’s episode left me dazed and confused. I knew they will not kill Klaus but I really didn’t expect Mikael to die that fast and I certainly did not expect that Stephan will be the one that puts a hitch in their plans. This one is a game changer and what we though was the introduction to a face off between K;aus and Mikael as the ultimate goal shifted into a face off between Stephan and Klaus, this story of recruting an army of hybrids and Klaus ultimate search of power is now a story of epic revenge, Klaus is going to take vengeance on Stephan and a very angry Stephan will take vengeance on Klaus…let the mind game begin when the show returns Januray 5th 2011.

A few points worth mentioning, first of all where was Alaric? I hate when he’s out of the loop he should be given more important and significant role. It’s Homecoming in Mystic falls and dare I say the show’s format was a little different,it keeps referring to itself using the voice of  Stephan as he warns Elena and Damon that their perfect plan to kill Klaus will fail because one of them will let their humanity take over as it later turns out Stephan’s humanity and love for his brother. I don’t understand why Katherine bothered to save Damon and employ Stephan to that end. Damon was really focused in this episode, what I love about Damon is; even though he might be impulsive most times he really does what he has to do to get the job done and Elena had the same attitude she mercilessly stabbed Rebekah in the back while they were having a heart to heart, I am loving how pragmatic Elena is becoming.

Klaus’s face off with Mikael revealed a lot about klaus as Mikael strips him bare and states all we know are Klaus’s insecurities, this encounter was my favorite of the episode and Joseph Morgan is pulling all the stops to bringing the character of Klaus to life and making us relate to him. Mikael tears him to pieces and as tears are streaming down Klaus’s face for a second we wish he would kill Mikael and he does, we regret that wish…not entirely because I am not ready to see Klaus leave.

The plan fails and it is a surprise, we’ve been told all through out the episode that the plan is going to fail, even Damon was afraid that something will go wrong and what painful about it is that Stephan intervened when the plan was working perfectly and they had Klaus where they wanted him. Stephan really made a mess of things, and though we learn later he had good intentions at heart his involvement in that ruin of damon’s plans will not be forgiven anytime soon for Damon and Elena both decide to let him go.

The episode was filled with betrayal and unexpected twists, biggest of all Stephan’s retaliation against Klaus by stealing the coffins of his family members which sent Klaus off the deep end, Tyler’s loyalty belongs with Klaus and though he does a hell of a job explaining it to Caroline it is not enough for her to forgive him for injecting her with vervain in Klaus’s name. Katherine hits the road taking Stepahn with her but unfortunately both of their plans don’t include staying together, he has a plan of vengeance and she has one of hiding, I don’t feel like we are going to hear from her anytime soon but it saddens me to hear that Stephan has no wish to reveal or express his humanity even when now he is free of compulsion.

To ease the pain of having to deal with The Vampire Diaries Hiatus till January of 2011 here is a promo of what’s to come and it is tasty as Klaus and Stephan both try to take vengeance against each other and Stephan soon learns that Klaus means business.

Community #AnniesMove Recap: Did You Know That When It Snows My eyes Become Large?

In tonight’s “Studies In Modern Movement” Annie is moving into Abed and Troy’s apartment and judging by  the approch of NBC, writers and cast having the twitter accounts of characters tweet throughout the whole episode I knew that I am about to watch a light hearted, fun episode and I was right. Let me start with comments I read in the A.V Club  comments section in their review about Community calling the advertising twitter campaign that NBC initiated cheap and gimmicky, that might be the case (when is  advertisement ever not gimmicky?!) I am glad to see that due to lower ratings NBC are getting behind the show and starting to encourage audiences to watch it I don’t care why it’s happening I am just glad that it is.I am mentally prepared to have this show in my life for a long time.Reviews are not raving about this episode which I understand but I think that is because  Community has set the bar so high that it’s always compared to its own previous episodes when it can get a B on the AV Club compared to other sitcoms of the night or even the week it gets an A so I stopped paying attention to that grading system and I just enjoy the show for what it is. I might not be a TV analyst/journalist who does this for a living but I know and I love my TV shows , whatever I write are just the opinions of one person who is watching TV and if there is anyone that agrees well great then I am not alone in the world after all ( wow life got dark!) . I needed to get that out of mys system first.

The story is divided into 2 parts in the beginning: Annie and the study group in Annie’s apartment and Jeff’s at the mall. the story is pretty simple, typical sitcom premise appealing to everyone even those who think Community is weird.  Annie is warned by Britta regarding the potential of hating Troy and Abed after moving in for finding what’s adorable annoying; she finally does and freaks her  out and she tries to act cool and adapt to the new situation,  Annie is worried about being uptight which hasn’t been mentioned openly since season one’s sexual awareness episode. She is trying to fit in and we see her insecurities about being in the group as we have seen everybody else’s insecurities throughout the show. Part 2 of the story is Jeff faking sickness to go to the mall and he engages in an elaborate scheme to be believable and subdue Britta’s suspensions employing the help of a Gap saleswoman who later tries to hit on him but he is more aroused by clothes than anything else.

As we all know of Community the stories are never that simple the 2 stories become 4, Jeff and the Dean having a lunch date at the mall, Britta and Shirley taking a ride and picking up a hitchhiker named Jesus,Annie getting acquainted with her living situation with Troy and Abed  and Pierce trying to fix up Annie’s apartment for inspection by the super “The Senator”.The stories are all equally funny and all characters get their fair share of the spot light regardless of one story excelling another. Annie and Trobed have it out when she discovers that those morons built a blanket fort for her to sleep in when there is a totally viable bedroom that is being used for virtual adventure, that room really scared me,those guys are inside their heads too much alittle Annie comes in as a big help. Jeff is caught in at the mall by Dean Pelton who is wearing khaki shorts and ends up wearing the same exact outfit as Jeff’s, Jeff is blackmailed into spending the day with Dean Pelton and as funny as that sounds you don’t know the half of it, the day turns into a date, they first go to lunch as Jeff orders for Greg AWWWW, then they go to those karaoke type of things at the mall  and sing one of my favorites; Seal’s “A Kiss From A Rose” , though now it’s my favorite for a whole new reason, then Jeff discovers that he is being stalked by Dean Pelton and an interesting piece of  information comes to light, Jeff has a therapist?! will we ever see that therapist ?and for how long has he been in therapy?he seemed depressed all he wanted is to be alone for the weekend…that’s sad. will there be a story line that reveals Jeff’s potential depression?

Britta and Shirley are having a fight in the car about religion and it puzzles me why Shirley’s religious beliefs are such a driving power to her story lines as hilarious as it was there must be a better use for Yvette Nichole Brown’s talents. Britta picks up a hitchhiker named Jesus and who he is starts to please and terrify Shirley and Britta as they are both trying to prove a point later they draw the line with racism and they throw him out of the car. Pierce is in Annie’s apartment trying to fix it up as that brilliant someone in the writers room who keeps pitching great ideas would have it Chevy Chase is given enough room to do what he does best , some great physical comedy. Pierce ends up inhaling the toxic fumes of the paint and swimming on the floor in a sea of white paint “This is all gay code”. Pierce is saved by the Super who does not look like a rapist at all, he’s actually nice. Annie comforts Pierce as he leans in for a kiss claiming he has brain damage…

Troy and Abed are distraught by Annie’s ultimatum, the room or her, and with the group’s help they fix up Annie’s new room and decide to give up their room and live in the blanket fort room instead of actually keeping their room and giving the other one that is slightly bigger to Annie… the group gathers in Annie’s little too much pink room for a great study group moment. I love those warm moments between the study group members, it reminds us of why exactly those knuckleheads hang out together. Jeff comes in and admits his lie but not to be a better guy but because he just went through a traumatic experience with the Dean and he figured since he left the Dean in the mall he might as well he puts it out there before Dean Pelton does. Dean Pelton tweets the duet of him and Jeff and the group mocks Jeff as they sing the song. what a great note to end the episode on.

Though the episode is not the best of Community I still think it was pretty great, it had some great heart felt moments and it had some laugh out loud moments. I enjoyed it tremendously and I can’t wait for more Annie and Trobed stories and more and more of Jim Rash’s comedic brilliance, please oh please the powers of comedy give him more story lines with Joel Mchale.

Tonight’s Community: Why You Must Watch It Tonight

There’s an all new Community tonight at 8 /7c on NBC and if  the mere mentioning of a brilliant show as Community is not enough there is some very interesting stories to make you tune in.

In “Studies in Modern Movement”  Annie is leaving her apartment over Dildopolis and moving into a more safe neighborhood after being invited by Abed to move into his and Troy’s new apartment to form the new “Three’s Company” (awesome stories ahead alert!). employing the group’s help to assist with the packing Annie moves into Troy and Abed’s apartment, naturally Jeff fakes being sick to avoid helping  and is blackmailed by the Dean to spend the day with him in the mall of all places. Annie reconsiders moving in with Troy and Abed after she sees just how much crazy fun they have which can be a nightmare for an obsessive personality like Annie’s. Fans of the show including yours truely are so excited they are trying to make #AnniesMove trend on Twitter to send a message of support for to the show’s creator Dan Harmon and the cast and crew after the crazy speculation of the show’s potential cancellation…God forbid. If you are interseted in joining the trend your help will be much appreciated. below are promotional pics to get you pumped, it sure looks like they are having fun. Will Annie move in with Troy and Abed?what does the dean have over Jeff”s head to blackmail him?how awesome will the episode turn out to be?

Gossip Girl “I Am Number Nine”: Never too late to say sorry

This is the second episode in a row this season that mainly has silly stories and focus on annoying characters or give an annoying portrayal of beloved characters. I did not hate it but it was O.K , though the Spectator story is getting interesting I feel like Nate’s involvement in the whole story and his persuit of a journalism career  is unbelievable to the character, I don’t understand why the character of Nate played by the always sexy Chase Crawford is never given any important story. The new Vanessa ( a homicide-provoking character that has no depth or necessity) aka Charlie is involved in the story too and has an eye for Nate ,it seems like gossip girl chose one character to combine what is annoying about Vanessa and Jenny and compressed it into one more attractive package, I don’t hate her but I am not a big fan either. Serena and Dan’s friendship is on the rocks and I have to admit I like it better when Dan calls Serena out on her crap, for me Serena gets away with everything and though she never really does anything evil I never really believe her or trust her. This season she  is trying to find a career which I admire and she tries to protect Dan but the way she walks into trouble and misunderstandings in a way that annoys me, we all had that friend that things happen around but nothing really is their fault. Blair is having one last mean girls competition  to find out who is going to be the next bride’s maid which seemed childish after all the things Blair went through but then again going through all that stress I understand wanting to go back to simpler times where Blair was in control of what happens to her. What makes me sad about Blair is how much I feel like she is trying to survive all the things that happen arround her which is not what we are used to in Blair, she always seems so in control and so focused that whenever I start to feel she is trapped like now with  her pregnancy and marriage to Louis sadness settles in my heart. Speaking of Louis we get to see his bad side and for Chair fans they were cheering waiting for him to give Blair enough reason to leave him and realistically we know the wedding will no go through for one reason or another, what will happen to the baby?…I don’t know.

Chuck is trying to heal and yet hides Blair from his therapist because it is the deepest, ugliest truth there is. Chuck’s worst fear was that he will be alone and never being loved, he was loved unconditionally by Blair and still managed to ruin it. I would not have accepted Chuck to stay the same after a huge blow such as losing Blair it makes sense for his character to either try to be a better person or become a worse person. The scenes between Chuck and Blair are always the best of any episode and after Chuck discovers that Louis is paying his therapist for information he exposes him in front of Blair, later to go to her penthouse and apologize for everything he ever did, he accepted his role in the ruin of their relationship and gave Blair the apology she needed, she asks him if there anything else he needs to say and the look in his eye suggests yes there is a lot more to say but he chooses not to say it . We know now that Blair is doubting her relationship with Louis either because he is starting to bore her or because she doesn’t love him as much as she loves Chuck,he is the mature choice but not necessarily the best one. All ends with Dan loses his movie deal and is back to being a nobody and Chuck leaves his engagement ring to Blair on the steps of  Harry Winston and no one gets what they really want.

Next episode features a Chuck Bass charity party and a possible chair hook up.

How I Met Your Mother “Disaster Averted”: Hurricane of emotions

I never expect a shoker when watching How I met Your mother so whenever there is one I am caught off guard. The episode opens with an action sequence of Barney explaining why he is not wearing that hideous ducky tie to Marshall and Lilly, Barney is so sick of the tie he offers a slap in exchange of removing it because as we later find out he is meeting with Nora’s parents, Marshall and Barney engage in various negotiations (sometimes in french) and reach a settlement where Barney doesn’t have to wear the tie anymore in exchange of 3 slaps in addition to the one he already has. Barney receives 2 of said slaps on the spot, I  am so glad to see some season 2 weirdness coming back .

The gang are telling the story of  hurricane Irene to Kevin Robin’s therapist boyfriend played by Kal Penn  my favorite new member of the group to explain why there is a “No Boggie Boarding” policy in the bar. Relating those character’s lives to a happening that actually took place in New York city makes me feel closer to the characters regardless of the novelty of the idea. Ted “The boy scout” arranges for the gang to leave the city in preparation for the hurricane wearing hot pink boots, Ted has a tragic issue with boots he really should just stop wearing them. Ted plans fall through and they end up stuck in Barney’s apartment.

Marshall’s afraid of death and sounds like “a very clingy  Edger Allen Poe”  (that was a funny bid) because due to his unemployment over the summer he has no insurance hence tempting fate, various scenarios in his head play out with him being attacked/molested by a bear and the only way he can be protected is to have Lilly by his side at all times, a not then pregnant Lilly is sick of Marshall’s neediness and desires a moment of piece so much that she is willing to weather the storm alone if it means time away from Marshall  . robin is dealing with her father issues as everyone is getting “are you O.K” phone calls from their parents except for her, it really seems that this season is more focused than ever on Robin’s daddy issues perhaps in  preparation for an arc later.

The episode concludes with the gang gathered in the rain and Marshall boogie boarding into MacLaren’s pub, then-single Barney and Robin almost kissing only to be interrupted by Robin’s dad calling her to check in. As we are back to the present Robin and Barney discuss what a mistake would it have been to kiss that day only to end up kissing in a scene that is out of NBC’s Community’s book when in “Modern Warfare” Jeff and Britta kiss as they are making fun of the idea of them kissing, glad to see the writers are watching Community as everyone should. What’s next? Is the wedding Barney and Robin’s?

Vampire Diaries “Ordinary People”: They really are ordinary

This episode came in a time where I am really examining the concept of family and how important it is so you might find this post more focused on the human connection than the events that happened in this episode. Btween Community and The Vampire Diaries this Thursday night was all about daddy issues, the world of TV gets me .

The ghosts story line really had me worried about where the show is going because I did not like it at all and in the 2 years I’ve been watching this show I never recall rolling my eyes at a story line. Season three is the time in TV show life where signs of confusion in the writer’s room and discontent actors start to appear and I was afraid for my favorite thursday night drama. This episode showed me that I was needlessly paranoid, the stroy of the originals was captivating when I did not expect it to be, I was excited to see Elijah again but I am not a big fan of flashbacks because for me they rarely give me what I want which is story progression but this  flashback as is true of The Vampire Diaries flashbacks was a very important part of the story and simply telling it was not enough we had to see it first hand and experience every character to understand who Mikel is and why Klaus is the way he is. ( Elijah and Mikael are the two originals that have me shaking in my boots not Klaus) . This episode reminded me how small our beloved Salvatore brothers and Elena are in the face of an epic story like the story of originals, how young they are in comparison to such an interwoven powerful story and yet they are caught in the middle.

Both Alaric and Elena take an active role in this episode, Alaric tries to analyse the drawing in the cave using his history backgroundand Post-its.It is good that Alaric is proactive since Jenna’s death because after being deprived of a chance to say goodbye to Jenna or even see her yet to be disappointed once again that all ghosts are back except for hers is a recipie for a villain; I think given the right circumstances and some serious acting muscles from Matt Davis that can one day be possible. As for Elena she is all grown up and we see it, not only in the change of fashion choice but also in the attitude, she is very smart and faces her problems head on, comapred to both Salvatore brother she is the planner, maybe it’s that Petrova blood in her veins.

Damon takes Stephan out for a drink in a misguided attempt to help Stephan because no matter what those two have going on they still love each other, and I think it’s vary smart of the show to admit that the bond between siblings is more strong than a one year relationship no matter how true that love was. Damon allowed Stephan to do what he wants ignoring Elena’s fury and Stephan possible escape. Mikel interrupts the brotherly bond by showing up without his dinner AKA Katherine Pierce and threatens Stephan using Damon ( Heart in a fist very befitting Damon giving his choice of killing technique) to find out where Klaus is, Stephan caves in and promises Mikael to draw Klaus to Mystic Falls because Stephan ,the ripper, could not let his brother die . I know Klaus is a thorn in everyone’s side but I don’t want to see him killed, I want more of Joseph Morgan but I don’t see him surviving season 3, the whole reason is about getting rid of him…hope I am wrong.

Elena tracks down Rebekha to find out what the drawings in the cave meant and after giving her a hard time Rebekah tells her story because I think she is lonely and needs someone to talk to hence choosing the Salvatore house to live in. the story of the originals was so compelling it reminded me of what I love the most about the Vampire diaries: the richness of the story. The story reveals how they came to the continent of north America, why they have an ancient feud  with the werewolves, the original’s  mother was the original witch who cast the hybrid curse on Klaus, how  and why they became vampires, how their father killed them in order to turn and Klaus killed his mother and told Rebekah that it was their father Mikael who ripped her heart out. Elena discovers that Klaus lied about who killed his mother and decides to tell Rebekah to turn her against Klaus and breaks Rebekah’s heart in the process. Rebekah and Elijah are loyal to Klaus for one reason only…they love him, he is their brother after all, it is brilliant for a show about vampires, werewolves and witches to recognize the humanity of their monsters so simply and lovingly, the writers don’t shove that affection down our throats, they sit back and allow us to feel it. It is worth noting here that it would make sense that Elijah discovered the truth about his mother’s murder and that is why he wanted vengeance against Klaus.

favorite moment: Elena and Damon are in bed talking, and Elena is mature enough to recognize that even she cannot match the love Damon and Stephan have for each other and Damon can’t help but stare at her as she drifts to sleep. that show really knows how to create special moments, regardless of the romance of it both Elena and Damon are broken by Stephan’s heartlessness and the fear of what’s to come.

What’s next?! and where is Katherine? could it be possible she is dead? are there only four originals?the caskets in Klaus’s possession are more especially when we remember that Mikael is not in one of those caskets and Rebekah said that the rest of their family was scattered. what will Rebekah do with the new information she has? what will happen with a Mikael/Klaus show down, How long will Stephan stay the way he is now?  and will Damon’s love heal him?
