How I Met Your Mother “Disaster Averted”: Hurricane of emotions

I never expect a shoker when watching How I met Your mother so whenever there is one I am caught off guard. The episode opens with an action sequence of Barney explaining why he is not wearing that hideous ducky tie to Marshall and Lilly, Barney is so sick of the tie he offers a slap in exchange of removing it because as we later find out he is meeting with Nora’s parents, Marshall and Barney engage in various negotiations (sometimes in french) and reach a settlement where Barney doesn’t have to wear the tie anymore in exchange of 3 slaps in addition to the one he already has. Barney receives 2 of said slaps on the spot, I  am so glad to see some season 2 weirdness coming back .

The gang are telling the story of  hurricane Irene to Kevin Robin’s therapist boyfriend played by Kal Penn  my favorite new member of the group to explain why there is a “No Boggie Boarding” policy in the bar. Relating those character’s lives to a happening that actually took place in New York city makes me feel closer to the characters regardless of the novelty of the idea. Ted “The boy scout” arranges for the gang to leave the city in preparation for the hurricane wearing hot pink boots, Ted has a tragic issue with boots he really should just stop wearing them. Ted plans fall through and they end up stuck in Barney’s apartment.

Marshall’s afraid of death and sounds like “a very clingy  Edger Allen Poe”  (that was a funny bid) because due to his unemployment over the summer he has no insurance hence tempting fate, various scenarios in his head play out with him being attacked/molested by a bear and the only way he can be protected is to have Lilly by his side at all times, a not then pregnant Lilly is sick of Marshall’s neediness and desires a moment of piece so much that she is willing to weather the storm alone if it means time away from Marshall  . robin is dealing with her father issues as everyone is getting “are you O.K” phone calls from their parents except for her, it really seems that this season is more focused than ever on Robin’s daddy issues perhaps in  preparation for an arc later.

The episode concludes with the gang gathered in the rain and Marshall boogie boarding into MacLaren’s pub, then-single Barney and Robin almost kissing only to be interrupted by Robin’s dad calling her to check in. As we are back to the present Robin and Barney discuss what a mistake would it have been to kiss that day only to end up kissing in a scene that is out of NBC’s Community’s book when in “Modern Warfare” Jeff and Britta kiss as they are making fun of the idea of them kissing, glad to see the writers are watching Community as everyone should. What’s next? Is the wedding Barney and Robin’s?

How I met Your Mother “Nortta”: The Title Says It All

I love How I met Your Mother for better and for worse and this episode so poorly entitled “Noretta” combining Nora’s name and Barney’s mom Loretta’s name is definitely worse. The episode lacked effort and it felt off track maybe it is due to cramming too many guest starts into one episode. I will not say I didn’t laugh because I did, I especially liked the “Three is a crowd” story between Robin,Ted and Kevin but it falls short in comparison to last week’s episode. The story is not new the characters start seeing their significant others as their parents so when you see Marshall about to kiss his dad (in reality Lilly) you are bound to laugh but it is a dumb joke none the less. I am not saying it was a bad episode, it was O.K but I really expected more .This is just a bump in the road but I still love the show and I’ll just ignore the fact that this episode exists, the show has its ups and downs but has grown enough audience that people are willing to live with those mishaps of episodes because they love the characters and the actors playing them.

All By Myself : Lonely Characters On TV

We are all lonely one way or another, but some people are alone and lonely, we love them and we feel sorry for them, here are a few names compiled by me and my sister

1. Chuck Bass Gossip Girl : even though Chuck is the proudest, meanest man alive he lives    for one thing only…Blair. Now Blair is with the prince and Bass is back to his season one      loneliness and it kills him because now he knows what is missing. I feel sorry for him, he      has no family and no one that really cares for him, and even when they try he only manages to push them away.

2. Matt Donovan The Vampire Diaries: If Matt turns into a psychotic killer I don’t blame him. He is abandoned by his mother, his sister was killed and she is haunting him,his girlfriend turned out to be a vampire and now is dating his best friend and a sacrifice needed both his palms to be cut into…I feel sorrow whenever I see Matt, for two season he’s been out of the loop, poor Matt.

3. Ben Wyatt Parks And Recreation: After ending his relationship with Lesley, Ben is in a new town with no reason to stay. Eating lunch alone must be one of the saddest scenes…at lunch time. I hope he wont be alone for long.

4. Ted Mosby How I Met Your Mother:  Now Ted has an amazing group of friends but recently he is the only single one, what makes him lonely is how much he needs to fall in love, he is like the rest of the single people who go home to an empty bed and every date carries the promise of a future.

5.Raj The Big Bang Theory: Raj is what you call “pathetically lonely”, he is unable to talk to girl unless drunk and never had a steady girlfriend. his attraction to Bernadette went nowhere.

6. Alex Karev Grey’s Anatomy : In my mind Alex will never get over Izzy, and even his once complex character became unnecessarily mean , he is still one of the loneliest people on Grey’s anatomy, he has never seen a happy day or ever had someone who cares for him and him alone.

7. Pierce Hawthorne Community: Pierce had one person in his life that really loved him..his mom and she died. Pierce is always alone with no one to relate to and even though he is surrounded by his study group members Pierce remains a lonely old man.

There you have it those are the people I could think of, if there are more feel free to suggest in the comments section 🙂

How I Met Your Mother “Mystery vs. History”: Psychological Analysis

I will say it ….This is one of the  the best  How I met Your mother episodes if not the best and smartest one to date. It was fresh and funny, giving us long time viewers a look at what our beloved gang looks like from the eyes of a stranger Robin’s therapist boyfriend Kevin played by Kal Penn . How I Met Your Mother  had its good episodes and their not so good ones and they are forgiven because we are in love with the characters, but this was an amazing ones taht I felt was well thought out by the writers. Might we see sitcoms upping their game by raising their respect to their audience as shows like Community do?

Hats off to the cast and writers who delivered such a stellar episode that deals with modern day dating and the dysfunctional of  the seven season long relationship. If the shows keeps delivering strong episodes like this one it will earn its place as a great comedy.

P.S: thanks for revealing the gender of the baby though we knew it is a boy from previous episodes I hate when it’s kept secret.

CBS takes undermining its audience to a whole new level

How To Be A Gentleman premiered on CBS Thursday night and let me tell you it killed…. every one who was watching. It starts off bad and then it gets worse. I shut it down entering minute 10 because though I am self-destructive I have my limits.

Lets’s start with the shadowy image of what looks like a cheap Knock-off of Neil Partrick Harris to be even more disappointed with the shabby unfunny acting of helium addict (that was mean) David Hornsby  who plays an old fashioned gentleman in our modern world………………  Sorry! I snoozed while writing the story line. The cast is God awful and they try to make it better by casting Kevin Dillon ( a modern guy..think Johnny Drama again) as the other pair of a really ugly shoe.

Here’s why I hated CBS for this show, in what universe was this pilot picked up ? CBS is known for comedies like Friends,How I Met Your Mother,  The Big Bang Theory and Two And A Half Men, which are hits but it is also famous for one  trick pony kind of shows. Don’t get me wrong all mentioned a great comedy shows, but they are not innovative or ground breaking in any way. Which made me reach to the conclusion that when it comes to comedy CBS really thinks its audience are morons, case in point; How I met Your Mother is a fresh new show but we are now tortured by the same thing that attracted us to the show…finding the mother, The Big Bang Theory started out as a fresh new comedy and it is still a very hilarious comedy but if it broken down to basics it is very redundant, they never try new things and characters never seem to go anywhere emotionally. Two and A Half Men, to some this might seem as blasphemy but the show is not funny, it is moronic at best. I loved Jon Cryer in “pretty in pink” but for  the life of me I don’t understand his Emmy appreciation. The show basically a series of meh jokes.

I might be way off base and I don’t care I said this once and I say it again with the quality of comedy shows that NBC has been supporting for years, comedy on TV should step up its game.

How I Met Your Mother : Bringing The Yuck back!

Two episodes back to back of How I Met Your Mother is every fan’s dream and it delivered on every level, Marshall slimmer and better trying to drink for two and Lilly trying to hide her pregnancy was both sweet and funny. Ted is looking back at the worst wedding he worst ever been to with groom Barney in the future , Barney has cold feet and we wonder if the bride is Nora or Robin… when at the end of the episode we have what I would like to see as hint Lilly comes in and tells Ted the bride wants to see him and why would Nora want to see Ted UNLESS Ted is actually the bride Robin’s best man. YAY!

Drunk Marshall and weepy self-pitying Ted take center stage in the episode while Lilly and Robin discuss chemistry especially the chemistry between Robin and Barney. The night is concluded with a group hug and Lilly announcing she is pregnant.

Best scene: the montage of Ted’s toasts ending with a remix, Josh Radnor never gets enough credit.

We are now witnessing the aftermath of the drinking binge of Marshall who has a chance to work with no other than Garrison Cootes played by Martin Short which leads to Marshall Googling  himself and discovering a streaking video that could cost him his impending job offer. He didn’t need to go to all this trouble I would’ve told him environmentalists love nudity have you ever seen  PETA  add ?!

Ted is dating two women and after pros, cons and colored charts he decided to take a lesson in Barney’s book who is trying to get Nora to date him after a startling confession of what lies he used on women (I’d buy that book). Ted wants to feel madly and helplessly in love so he blows off the meh women he was dating and he takes Robin to see Lenny Kravits at the architects Galla only to her horror she discovers he is Leonard Kravits a very old architect. (we saw that one coming). What I did not see coming was the atrocious scene of Ted’s ex girlfriend Victoria(played by Ashley Williams) assorting cupcakes on a tray… Oh how I hated her, she was lame and unfunny. If her story line involves her getting sucked into  a lawn mower then I am down with it.

Best scene: Pete Derkenson (sounds like a made up name) calls Barney after we’ve seen him sitting on the steps of his house, hands taped to beers drunk out of his mind, to tell him he’s taking off Marshall’s streaking video. Then he hangs up the phone to perform a surgery. Classic!

Returning Shows: Fall TV Munchies

This season of 2011-2012 is the most excited I am for new upcoming TV shows, it is either because my appetite for TV programming has increased or that this season is an impressive one. It’s definitely a little bit of both. The summer has offered a few distractions such as new shows : Franklin and Bash and Friends with benefits and returning shows: Weeds,The Big C,Louie and True Blood . As great as they were they are NO fall TV programming where you having a long list to select and choose from.

That said the sadness is and the time has come where you grab popcorn and watch you favorite show on TV, your computer or whatever contraption who can keep track. Another option for people who live outside the US is to look for bit torrents, download and then watch.

I will first start with returning shows I am looking forward to and if I leave some shows out it is either because I am not fortunate to know them yet or that I think the shows sucks and refuse to watch it .

1. Community season 3(NBCSept 22nd : First ,yeah! I have no illusions how bias I am for the show, I still think it is the greatest comedy on TV and the lack of recognition saddens me because with no doubt the show has the hardest working actors, writers and crew.

Where we left off : The WW2 of paintball where Greendale Collage prevails over City Collage, Pierce (Chevy Chase) the recently becoming the villain of the group saves the day and wins the school $100,000 and refuses the group’s invitation to come back to the group after he’s been voted out. The door to study room F is open with 6 hopefuls that pierce will come crawling back to the group.

Why we are excited:  The obvious is more Community is always a good thing. The much anticipated Jeff/Annie ,Troy/Britta love connection.Knowing the creator Dan Harmon it will not be a typical soapy story line. They promise to have more fun and be less weird so we will have to wait and see. Oh plus John Goodman is coming to the show and Jim Rash (dean Pleton) is a series regular now 🙂

Excitement levellethally high, Hyperventilation high.

2. The Good wife Season 3 (CBS) Sept 25th : After delivering a stellar season it is no wonder The Good wife can’t come a moment too soon. so a moment of silence for the pure awesomeness that is season 2…………

Where we left off: Alicia and Will finally caved in and made their feelings clear, after everything went wrong they managed to let go of their fears and embrace their passion. Peter is State Attorney now and in cahoots with Carey, and bridges burned between Alicia and Kalinda.

Why we are excited: the “talk”, Alicia and Will will discuss the hell out of their encounter and a good covwersation is never bad between those two. Kalinda has a hell of redemption to do and losing Alicia is bound to spin her out of contorl,Eli Gold (Alan cumming) is Alicia’s co-worker no…or is it boss?! anyways  and Peter is going to play dirty with the help of the unfortunally scarcely used  Matt Czuchry.

Excitement level: High with occasional breathing.

3. Parks And Recreation Season 4 (NBC) Sept 22nd : with new addition last season this show managed to be more awesome, it should be registered as the smartest casting move in TV history.

Where we left off:  After a slow brewing romance between Leslie and Ben they’re finally on the right track, or are they? Leslie is offered a new job which might jeopardize her relationship with Ben. Chris is interested in Ann again and Ann is working with the parks department (to justify her constant showing up, no one visits city hall by choice).

Why we are excited: Tammy 1, mommy Swanson…need more…seriously?! we will find out what Leslie is going to do with Ben.

Excitement level : high with tendency to get light headed.

4. The Vampire Diaries season 3 (CWSept 15th : After so many dead could the body count get any higher? we are psyched to find out.

Where we left off:  the curse of the sun and the moon has been broken, Katherine is gone, Elena and Damon kissed ,Stephan turned bad and now Klaus is a vampwolf .

Why we are excited: All  the listed above…. What will happen with Stephan. How Damon and Elena will address their recent kiss. Who else will die this season and brooding, mourning Alaric is bound to be hot .

Excitement level : high with heavy bleeding.

5. Fringe season 4 (Fox) Sept 23rd : Fringe has proved itself a strong contender after surviving the death time slot it been moved to (Friday night) and for that it deserves commending. I am NOT a sci-fi fan but Fringe is entertaining enough to keep me hooked.

Where we left off: Peter was hooked to the machine resulting in a world merge and Peter disappearing taking away every trace of his existence.

Why we are excited: What happened to Peter? Peter does not exsit does that mean his son is never born? how will bolivia and olivia ever deal with eachother? so many questions unanswered.

Excitement level : high with drastic weight loss and chronic blackouts

There are some other shows I am excited about like How I Met Your Mother Sept 19th , The Middle Sept 21st ,Grey’s Anatomy Sept 22nd , The Big Bang Theory  Sept 22nd Raising Hope Sept 20th , and The  Office Sept 22nd  but those are the ones I wanted to focus on….ah my life is back to normal.

P.S: This Blog post is dedicated to Aseel Zahran who allowed me to use her computer to update my blog and who told me I should have a blog in the first place so I can stop blabbing about TV while she’s out to save the world.
