It has been a while where we all missed The Vampire Diaries and if anyone noticed i was gone yes i was not blogging for a while because the news of a Community Hiatus hit me really hard i did not even review their Christmas episode because i just can’t. Thankfully The Vampire Diaries’ amazing episode helped me deal.
the show opens up with Bonnie and as a “not-so-big-a-fan-of-Bonnie” i rolled my eyes, i understand her necessity but I just do not like her at all…anyways the dream itself predicts that as always The Vampire Diaries is not running around in circles around a story line, they could have stalled the story of Michael for an entire season but they did not and now Klaus and Stephan are in a battle as the tables are turned and instead of Stephan trying to protects his family it is Klaus who is trying to protect his.
After everything that happened Elena is paranoid as she is taking her daily run because she is smart, she understands that Klaus will have her head for trying to kill him, you never really understand how scary someone is until we see other terrified of him, and the problem with Klaus is that he is a sociopath, he is not violent he is evil, even his absence of a reaction terrifies Elena . At the grill Damon is being Damon and the always underrated Alaric is looking for Jeremy who is hanging out with Tyler.Tyler’s connection with Klaus proved itself very alarming and i don’t have faith in Tyler because i feel that when the going gets tough Tyler will sell his friends out and I don’t mind that at all, it makes the story more interesting because lets face it Tyler has always been a jerk. Him trying to explain that connection to Alaric and Elena only made them more sure that he can potentially be an enemy, I just wished Elena asked Tyler “If Klaus asked you to kill me will you?” but I guess we will find out the answer to that soon .
Klaus is not playing and he knows exactly how to get what he wants starting with Jeremy, this was a big episode for Jeremy in a good way, i love the fact that Jeremy is not happy with the life he is living but sadly surrenders to it, and as he is standing compelled in front of a speeding car it hits me….he is a 16 year old orphan who lost his aunt and uncle very recently, he has been through hell. . I couldn’t help but shriek as the car hit Alaric, though i know he is in no danger of dying it still frightened me. regarding all angles of the situation Jeremy’s suggestion of leaving mystic falls was a smart one and the ominous sentence that felt as a foreshadowing “None of us are going to make it out of this town alive” , the only one that made the most sense to me in that room was Jeremy…i really liked him in this episode, he chopped a hybrid’s head off and saved Elena’s life. This new kick ass Jeremy made Elena sad and as a sister she wanted to save her brother so she asked Damon to compel him in a scene very reminiscent of season 1. it was a very heart breaking scene and Nina Dobrev (Elena) is one of the few actresses who breaks my heart simply by crying.
Elena’s encounter with Stephan was sad, she implored him to help her and give Klaus what he wants and he refuses. he is not heartless, Stephan is still a good guy and it would be idiotic to turn him into a villain, he is finally doing what needs to be done to take Klaus down, and though he did not accept to jeopardize his plan to save Elena’s brother he did everything he can to save his own. In that moment if you felt that Stephan doesn’t care about Elena anymore, well we are all wrong, he asked Damon to keep Elena out of his plan to take down Klaus…AWWWWWW
Damon talks to Stephan, it was fun to watch Damon try to get into the spooky house as the witches are trying to stop him. Damon and Stephan have a lot of resentment and love between them, i will venture and say that they are the greatest love story of the entire show. They fight as always and Damon lets Stephan have it and eventually they work it out and agree to work together to bring down Klaus.Little did they know Elena was back in the mansion giving a very dead Rebecca to a very pissed off Klaus. Though this might seem impulsive once again Elena proves that she does best when she is not listening to what she is told, she strikes a deal with Klaus to spare her brother in exchange of his sister. Elena very intelligently notes that Rebecca might not only come after her but after Klaus too, Rebecca know he killed their mother. Klaus decides to keep her dead in a very touching scene. Weird sibling love all around.
Finally the most anticipated scene in the episode, Damon and Elena on the porch where many special moments seem to happen on this show, Damon kisses Elena…it is that simple, he tells her that Stephan was trying to save him when he ruined their plan to kill Klaus and that he thought that Stephan being a traitor helped him over his guilt, Elena pleads with him not to go there and he doesn’t. Elena’s eyes are screaming “kiss me” and we are all yelling at the screen “kiss her” and he decides that if he wants to feel guilty he might as well feel guilty for something that is worth it, he goes back and kisses a very dumbfounded Elena….end scene
- Klaus is renovating a house :hope that means he is going to be in our lives for a long time.
- Klaus really hates Damon….serious hate
- Alaric’s ring did not work….what does that mean?!
- Elena’s face at the end scene looked pretty much like mine
- Jeremy cutting off a hybrid’s head with a meat cleaver was awesome…just awesome.
- When is Jeremy coming back? why did they send him away?
- I find the fact that the words “it’s everything you wanted it’s everything you don’t ” were in the lyrics as Damon and Elena kissed was hilarious and so…. so true
It is so good to have this show back in my life. Here’s the promo for next week’s episode “Our Town”
The Vampire Diaries is famous for its twists and warp speed story progression but I swear this week’s episode left me dazed and confused. I knew they will not kill Klaus but I really didn’t expect Mikael to die that fast and I certainly did not expect that Stephan will be the one that puts a hitch in their plans. This one is a game changer and what we though was the introduction to a face off between K;aus and Mikael as the ultimate goal shifted into a face off between Stephan and Klaus, this story of recruting an army of hybrids and Klaus ultimate search of power is now a story of epic revenge, Klaus is going to take vengeance on Stephan and a very angry Stephan will take vengeance on Klaus…let the mind game begin when the show returns Januray 5th 2011.
A few points worth mentioning, first of all where was Alaric? I hate when he’s out of the loop he should be given more important and significant role. It’s Homecoming in Mystic falls and dare I say the show’s format was a little different,it keeps referring to itself using the voice of Stephan as he warns Elena and Damon that their perfect plan to kill Klaus will fail because one of them will let their humanity take over as it later turns out Stephan’s humanity and love for his brother. I don’t understand why Katherine bothered to save Damon and employ Stephan to that end. Damon was really focused in this episode, what I love about Damon is; even though he might be impulsive most times he really does what he has to do to get the job done and Elena had the same attitude she mercilessly stabbed Rebekah in the back while they were having a heart to heart, I am loving how pragmatic Elena is becoming.
Klaus’s face off with Mikael revealed a lot about klaus as Mikael strips him bare and states all we know are Klaus’s insecurities, this encounter was my favorite of the episode and Joseph Morgan is pulling all the stops to bringing the character of Klaus to life and making us relate to him. Mikael tears him to pieces and as tears are streaming down Klaus’s face for a second we wish he would kill Mikael and he does, we regret that wish…not entirely because I am not ready to see Klaus leave.
The plan fails and it is a surprise, we’ve been told all through out the episode that the plan is going to fail, even Damon was afraid that something will go wrong and what painful about it is that Stephan intervened when the plan was working perfectly and they had Klaus where they wanted him. Stephan really made a mess of things, and though we learn later he had good intentions at heart his involvement in that ruin of damon’s plans will not be forgiven anytime soon for Damon and Elena both decide to let him go.
The episode was filled with betrayal and unexpected twists, biggest of all Stephan’s retaliation against Klaus by stealing the coffins of his family members which sent Klaus off the deep end, Tyler’s loyalty belongs with Klaus and though he does a hell of a job explaining it to Caroline it is not enough for her to forgive him for injecting her with vervain in Klaus’s name. Katherine hits the road taking Stepahn with her but unfortunately both of their plans don’t include staying together, he has a plan of vengeance and she has one of hiding, I don’t feel like we are going to hear from her anytime soon but it saddens me to hear that Stephan has no wish to reveal or express his humanity even when now he is free of compulsion.
To ease the pain of having to deal with The Vampire Diaries Hiatus till January of 2011 here is a promo of what’s to come and it is tasty as Klaus and Stephan both try to take vengeance against each other and Stephan soon learns that Klaus means business.
This episode came in a time where I am really examining the concept of family and how important it is so you might find this post more focused on the human connection than the events that happened in this episode. Btween Community and The Vampire Diaries this Thursday night was all about daddy issues, the world of TV gets me .
The ghosts story line really had me worried about where the show is going because I did not like it at all and in the 2 years I’ve been watching this show I never recall rolling my eyes at a story line. Season three is the time in TV show life where signs of confusion in the writer’s room and discontent actors start to appear and I was afraid for my favorite thursday night drama. This episode showed me that I was needlessly paranoid, the stroy of the originals was captivating when I did not expect it to be, I was excited to see Elijah again but I am not a big fan of flashbacks because for me they rarely give me what I want which is story progression but this flashback as is true of The Vampire Diaries flashbacks was a very important part of the story and simply telling it was not enough we had to see it first hand and experience every character to understand who Mikel is and why Klaus is the way he is. ( Elijah and Mikael are the two originals that have me shaking in my boots not Klaus) . This episode reminded me how small our beloved Salvatore brothers and Elena are in the face of an epic story like the story of originals, how young they are in comparison to such an interwoven powerful story and yet they are caught in the middle.
Both Alaric and Elena take an active role in this episode, Alaric tries to analyse the drawing in the cave using his history backgroundand Post-its.It is good that Alaric is proactive since Jenna’s death because after being deprived of a chance to say goodbye to Jenna or even see her yet to be disappointed once again that all ghosts are back except for hers is a recipie for a villain; I think given the right circumstances and some serious acting muscles from Matt Davis that can one day be possible. As for Elena she is all grown up and we see it, not only in the change of fashion choice but also in the attitude, she is very smart and faces her problems head on, comapred to both Salvatore brother she is the planner, maybe it’s that Petrova blood in her veins.
Damon takes Stephan out for a drink in a misguided attempt to help Stephan because no matter what those two have going on they still love each other, and I think it’s vary smart of the show to admit that the bond between siblings is more strong than a one year relationship no matter how true that love was. Damon allowed Stephan to do what he wants ignoring Elena’s fury and Stephan possible escape. Mikel interrupts the brotherly bond by showing up without his dinner AKA Katherine Pierce and threatens Stephan using Damon ( Heart in a fist very befitting Damon giving his choice of killing technique) to find out where Klaus is, Stephan caves in and promises Mikael to draw Klaus to Mystic Falls because Stephan ,the ripper, could not let his brother die . I know Klaus is a thorn in everyone’s side but I don’t want to see him killed, I want more of Joseph Morgan but I don’t see him surviving season 3, the whole reason is about getting rid of him…hope I am wrong.
Elena tracks down Rebekha to find out what the drawings in the cave meant and after giving her a hard time Rebekah tells her story because I think she is lonely and needs someone to talk to hence choosing the Salvatore house to live in. the story of the originals was so compelling it reminded me of what I love the most about the Vampire diaries: the richness of the story. The story reveals how they came to the continent of north America, why they have an ancient feud with the werewolves, the original’s mother was the original witch who cast the hybrid curse on Klaus, how and why they became vampires, how their father killed them in order to turn and Klaus killed his mother and told Rebekah that it was their father Mikael who ripped her heart out. Elena discovers that Klaus lied about who killed his mother and decides to tell Rebekah to turn her against Klaus and breaks Rebekah’s heart in the process. Rebekah and Elijah are loyal to Klaus for one reason only…they love him, he is their brother after all, it is brilliant for a show about vampires, werewolves and witches to recognize the humanity of their monsters so simply and lovingly, the writers don’t shove that affection down our throats, they sit back and allow us to feel it. It is worth noting here that it would make sense that Elijah discovered the truth about his mother’s murder and that is why he wanted vengeance against Klaus.
favorite moment: Elena and Damon are in bed talking, and Elena is mature enough to recognize that even she cannot match the love Damon and Stephan have for each other and Damon can’t help but stare at her as she drifts to sleep. that show really knows how to create special moments, regardless of the romance of it both Elena and Damon are broken by Stephan’s heartlessness and the fear of what’s to come.
What’s next?! and where is Katherine? could it be possible she is dead? are there only four originals?the caskets in Klaus’s possession are more especially when we remember that Mikael is not in one of those caskets and Rebekah said that the rest of their family was scattered. what will Rebekah do with the new information she has? what will happen with a Mikael/Klaus show down, How long will Stephan stay the way he is now? and will Damon’s love heal him?
next episode’s “Homecoming” mid-season Finale synopsis and promo below :
On the night of the Homecoming dance, Rebekah opens up to Elena about why the evening is so important to her, leaving Elena with conflicting emotions. Caroline and Matt are both shocked at Tyler’s behavior throughout the evening. The night takes a surreal turn when Klaus puts his latest plan into action. Determined to outsmart Klaus, Damon enters into a dangerous partnership, leading to a terrifying turn of events.
I will start off by saying WHAT THE HELL?! Vampire Diaries writers never waste any time, this episode had a finale vibe and we are still in the beginning. As it seems Klaus have been patient with Stephan all this time and now there is no more Mr nice guy. we get a first taste of what a ruthless man Klaus is, unlike his brother Elijah, Klaus is not only a killer he is a manipulator, he compels a girl to left her foot up and her friend to beat her to death if she puts her foot down. He is twisted.
The gang are preparing for senior prank and it makes me sad that making something so normal feels alien to them and they don’t live that dream for long when Klaus grabs Elena…the writers didn’t even prepare for that they just dove right in…Elena is understandably terrified and Nina Dobrev’s innocent doe eyes help her greatly, as Klaus ruthlessly drags around Caroline and Tyler are attacked and Tyler is taken to Klaus by Rebecca who turns out to be a scary ally. Klaus wants to turn Tyler into a hybrid, and he kills him I pause the scene and let out a helpless shriek…
Kathrine tries to get Damon on her side while taking his phone and Jeremy hostage, she wants information on who exactly is Klaus afraid of, Damon tries to bang the information out of Jeremy and succeeds.Damon is away from all the drama that is taking place in the school gym, amazing location by the way the echo of the gym amplifies everything that is happening. Stephan is staked by Rebecca but why would a metal rod immobilize him unless perhaps it has vervain? anyways Stephan shows up and tries to convince Klaus to leave Elena alone and ends up having to feed on Elena “you know you want to” I kinda wanted him to. Time runs out Tyler is almost dying as Caroline helplessly watches and yes I am totally leaving out the Vicki talking to Matt story because I don’t like it that much, I know it is going somewhere and I will stay patient till we get there.
Klaus compels Stephan to kill the two students in the gym and then feed on Elena, there is a part of Elena that believes he will not hurt her and there is another part that does not trust him at all and at the end of the episode the part that doesn’t trust him prevails. The best and saddest of it all is that Klaus compels Stephan to shut off his feelings totally and it looks painful…as we are left to presume Stepahn hurt Elena beyond repair Damon is alerted to the situation back in mystic falls with many texts from Bonnie and leaves Jeremy and Katherine together, the last time they were together one was feeding on the other so I am not sure that was a good idea, granted Katherine wont kill him but still……
Elena is not killed but worse, she is lying on a hospital bed as a nurse drains her of blood under Klaus’s compulsion, Klaus discovered that the blood of the doppelganger is the key for siring his own specie thus turns Tyler into a hybrid….Tyler was never totally a human to begin with but he is now dead. Damon comes to the rescue and receives a bit of complementary ass-kicking from Klaus, Damon very cleverly gets rid of Klaus by telling him Michael who we see wake up at the end a vampire who hunts vampires is coming for Klaus. Damon saves the day and carries Elena out of the hospital.
Elena went through hell in this episode and now she begins her journey into letting go of Stephan, I loved the moment she looks at Damon and says “where were you Damon?” he is now her savior, and as Damon came in to turn things upside down in season 1 now Stephan comes to claim his thrown as “The Ripper”.
Here’s next week’s promo “smells like teen spirit” will Elena succeed in saving Stephan? hope not …..
In The Vampire Diaries’ second episode “The hybrid” our beloved characters are being tested. I will not go through what happened in the episode scene by scene because if you are reading this you probably watched it. The episode was both a sad and funny one, the dynamics between Damon and Elena dominate the episode. Those two are getting pushed closer together (Damon pushing Elena into the lake was a welcomed break from the intensity of the episode).
Damon: In this episode Damon is dealing with a lot, he gave up on Stephan and it eats him up inside. He doesn’t want Stephan back because he wants Elena and he wants Stephan back because he loves him. He is dealing with Andy’s death which as much as he liked to pretend was not easy on him. Elena doesn’t seem to clearly see his struggle and keeps pushing him to find Stephan. He realizes later that Stephan is not beyond saving and it hurts him to see Stephan trapped. He really loves his brother and hates him at the same time and when Damon feels too much he shuts down.
Elena: She is alone…lost and needs Stephan back because she both loves him and as crazy as it might sound he is her protector and guide to anything normal. Elena is always relentless but rarely stupid and in this episode she was both and that shows how desperate she is to find Stephan. Elena is also in need of guidance and after Damon fails her she turns to Alaric her only connection to adulthood. Elena is really trying to be put together but she has a lot of hurt and pain she is dealing with. On top of that she is taken aback by her strong feelings for damon because unlike Damon she was never open to them or about them. damon’s constant pushing her to be honest about her feelings even if she doesn’t act on them is not helping her struggle at all (say what you will those two don’t have a boring relationship at all).
Jeremy and Matt: Though I am not sure where this storyline is supposed to lead, I am giving it time.I feel so sorry for Matt and Jeremy they both live with too many ghosts…emotional ghosts. Their new found friendship is a good thing. (they should seriously ban Jeremy from using the internet, first he researches vampires then coming back from the dead and now how to talk to ghosts).
Stephan: The most lost of all, he lost himself and even though the show is showing us the soft side of Stephan I cant forget those bodies we’ve seen in the first episode of the season .Damon is brutal but quick he’s even a little bit tender with his victims, Stephan’s crimes are so animalistic and just so damn freaky. Stephan is battling the biggest baddest daemon around…himself, which makes me wonder why he is sticking with klaus…because he promised, he is afraid for Damon’s life or because deep down he wants to. I feel in need of a good reason . He was trapped on that mountain and as Elena rushes to Damon and they enter the car together there is nothing he can do but watch.
Alaric: He must be one of the angriest character in this episode and though he’s been in control in the face of everything for two seasons now is the time where he falls apart and throws in the towel…he doesn’t want to care anymore. As he is preparing to fall into nothingness Elena asks him for help then forces him to be a part of her broken family giving him a chance of a life again (there is a creepy air about Elena and Alaric’s relationship that wasn’t there before, I can’t put my finger on it but I feel it)
Caroline: Though she is not seen until the end of the episode, Caroline is the toughest character there is and she has some great adversity her coming her way, as she makes peace with her mother her father shows up to chain and torture her.
Klaus: Could we have seen the softer, melancholic side of Klaus in this episode. As his plans fall through in creating an army of hybrids, Comrades as he calls the…and I wonder does he mean friends? a family? it sort of reminded me of the monster of Frankenstein. Sitting on that log drinking beer he looked so miserable and lonely. Did his plan fail because Elena is alive? she died isn’t that the point?
There are many rewind worthy moments in this episode but the best one has to be the conclusion scene between Elena and Damon, the scene is almost an exact replica of the scene in season 2 episode 8 “Rose” where Damon first tells Elena he loves her then compels her to forget. In this scene they both now he loves her and he backs into a corner into admitting she cares for him to prove one thing that he needs her to know and admit how she feels about him when Stephan is gone.
Some might start to see that Damon is becoming more human this season and that Stephan is becoming more demonic and that could be the case but what if we are getting to know Damon and Stephan more and we as audience are starting to see who they really are. What if they way things are now has always been the case.
Here’s next week’s promo “The End Of The Affair”
