Vampire Diaries got crowded this week and as ghost Vicki said it best “In a town full of vampires, werewolves and witches I’ll fit right in”. Elena is back as I know and love her, bad ass Elena. She is very wisely training with Alaric at 6 am to protect herself against vampires against Stephan to be exact… Whats is funny about that scene in the woods is Alaric’s out of control hair and the-Greendale-human-being-cousin-doll Elena was practicing on (shout out to NBC’s Community).
It is the first day of school and Stephan and Elena’s anniversary and as I hear Elena remember that it hits me, it has been a year, all that that happened throughout the past two seasons happened in one year and I really admire Elena for getting out of bed in the morning,I wouldn’t ,this is why I get upset when Elena is whiny because she is strong, she is no Bella and that is what I love about her.My friends claim that in this season Nina Dobrev who plays Elena over acts and I disagree,if there is something I am worried about with Elena is that with the gradually changing wardrobe and little more makeup she’ll blend with Katherine, and they will become the same actress, I hope that never happens.
This episode was an homage to the season’s pilot and I loved that,Elena coming out of the bathroom and bumping into Stephan and the bonfire it shows how far those characters have come, I didn’t like The Vampire Diaries the first 3 episodes of season one and I am glad I continued watching to see the error of my ways because now I can honestly say that Vampire Diaries gives me my drama fix for the week.
Damon surprisingly seemed like the only together person/vampire in this episode, now another thing I discussed with friend is the shift of roles between Stephan and Damon, they claim it is not realistic and again I disagree, I said it once and I will say it again, Damon is not bad and it will be boring if he had that one side to his character, Damon is impulsive he lets you know what he thinks, he is the most emotional and guarded one of the two brother she has always been the screw up and he is comfortable with that label , Stephan on the other hand himself to a high moral code that always weighed heavy on him and made him seem as kind of a buzz kill because unlike Damon he cares how other people see him, he is hard on himself and has a darkness in him that he fears, a real darkness that Damon talks about but never shows , Stephan never mentions his darkness but it can be seen in moments he lets his guard down. and what we see now is Stephan letting go of that moral code. In a nut shell this is not a change as much it is a revelation about the two characters which I think is brilliant.
The ghost story line continues to worry me because I don’t know exactly where it is going but then again when do I ever see a story line coming in Vampire Diaries, six episodes in and i have gasped and yelled out OMG more times than I can count, so even though I am a little scared I will trust the writers and watching this week’s episode helped me get to that state of mind because at least a little is being revealed and apparently even witches on the other side are hell-bent on killing Elena…poor Elena.
A little B story line that will eventually get to the A story is Rebekah’s (I caved and now that is how I spell her name) interest in Tyler and Tyler’s blind devotion to Klaus are getting on Caroline’s nerves and as Damon sees it there is one solution to the problem “Get a new boyfriend”. Elana’s plan to lock Stephan up seemed too easy to pull off, but I admire her dedication, she was out there in the bonfire party looking Stephan in the eye refusing to back down, and as she is busy getting “not sober”, Damon is trying to charm Rebekah but she is too smart to fall for it. Elena is drunk and let me just say I love drunk Elena, and she fakes falling from the bleachers as Stephan catches her as wee swoon over the exchanged glances Alaric shoots him in the back. Let me take a moment to recognize how amazing and awesome Alaric was in this episode, tortured fighting with Damon Alaric is awesome…how cute is it that Damon misses his friend when he says ” Are you ever gonna be not mad at me rick?“. On another note I wish everyone would stop calling him Rick, I love the name Alaric and Damon started using Rick to get on Alaric’s nerves now everyone is using it…NOT COOL. Now back to Stephan he gets trapped in the car with elena as Vicki sets the car on fire, Matt does the hardest thing he ever has to do which is let her go and put her back where she belongs…not here.
Elena’s is hurt and Damon is “medicating” her, Elena is really struggling with her feelings for Damon(Damon is not making it easy to not fall in love with) because she doesn’t know hat they are and she is a little ashamed that now that Stephan is gone she is eyeing his brother, before we saw Damon looking at Elena’s lips filled with desire, now it is Elena who’s doing all the looking. Standing ovation to the scene in the weight room where Damon shows her exactly where to get to a vampire’s heart…the mention of Buffy made it better.
The cherry on top: Katherine wakes Michael up who is changed and refuses to drink human blood and just as you are thinking “Aww he doesn’t drink people he is the good guy” he ..um well…he eats Katherine. Michael feeds on vampires, so Klaus is running away because he is someone’s dinner. Chocolate sprinkles: as you are enjoying watching Damon clean up after Stephan, ghost Mason shows up and he does not look happy.
What is in store for next week? well looks like Mason is not the only ghost in town [SPOLIER] Lexi Stephan’s best friend makes a comeback and from the looks of it tries to help Elena “restore” Stephan…WHAAAAT?!
One of the most anticipated shows on my list and it’s finally here. the theme is growing up, as Elena turns 18 an atmosphere of maturity dominates the episode, the characters seem older and more established.
It all starts as usual with a shocker, as Stephan is not only following Klaus but also kills two young women as they scream … good Stephan is gone, for a moment as Klaus left the house I thought Stephan was going to show mercy but as Damon reveals later he does not and to add to that he ripped them apart and put them back together because he feels remorse….that sent a chill down my spine. The blond girl looked him in the eye and asked him not to kill her and our Stephan did it anyway.
Elena’s morning is a somber one, I like that scene it reminded me of the pilot waking up in bed sad over her parents, looking back we spent a significant amount of time in Elena’s bedroom over the past 2 years. Elena wakes Jeremy up and helps Alraic who is an obvious human mess with the Coffee machine. There is a B-day party planning going on hosted by tanned and slimmed Caroline, the bubbliest bad-ass vampire around.
Damon in the bath tub, that man is not afraid of a bubble bath a lesson to men everywhere (Elena’s looking down then turning away as she sees him all soapy is priceless) . Andy is back and let me just say that they have a nice relationship I know he compelled her and such but still they have a nice honest dynamic. Andy is helping Damon find Stephan, as he is staring at multiple maps, news paper articles and post-its with colorful thumbtacks about Stephan’s victims not Klaus’s but Stephan’s . When first we saw Damon’s bedroom and unbelievable bathroom in season 2 I noticed that he’s surprisingly neat and organized, so he is a little OCD.
Jeremy works at the Grill and it is obvious that they are in the middle of the summer so Stephan has been gone for a while and Jenna has been dead for a while too. Over the summer Caroline have been seeing Tyler a lot but only as friend and I was then asking why????
Klaus found what he’s looking for Ray Sutton the werewolf in a bar and with the help of Stephan or actually, he does nothing it was all Stephan,Klaus just barks orders and delivers creepy one-liners. I hated seeing Stephan following Klaus’s orders but in all honesty the throwing wolf spane darts at the werewolf game was kind of an awesome idea.
The Dynamic duo Damon and Alaric “Damonic” 🙂 went to check out Stephan’s last trail and came face to face with Stephan’s victims, the smeared blood all over the walls did not prepare me to the eerie positions the bodies of the girls were found in or the falling blonde head. Caroline and Tyler discuess how when they are supernatural they are ….”excited” all the time foreshadowing the fact that later they will “express their excitement in a physical fashion” to put it lightly hehe .
Damon give Elena her necklace back, I can’t remember why it was lost though?! anyways Damon compels a girl to drink the cheap stuff which was a relief, what teenager has the audacity to drink a bottle of wine with beer provided. Jeremy and Matt smoke a joint as they bond, might it be an indication that Matt will have more screen time this year?
Stephan stops Klaus from dealing with Damon and suggest he deals with it to stop Damon from trailing him. Andy is in a dark studio and we all know she’ll end up dead. I expected Stephan to drop her off at the mansion all chopped up but no he invited Damon to watch. The confrontation ends up with Andy falling to her death,as good as Stephan might be I think he enjoyed this one. After all Damon killed Lexi Stephan’s best friend relatively the same way, I think he was subconsciously waiting for that one for a while. I felt sorry for Andy she really did not deserve it.
Back at the party Alaric is holding down the fort full of his drunk history students and I am glad he pointed that out, because it was weird. Caroline begs Elena to move on with her life and to stop whining about Stephan and while they bicker over it Elena finds Damon’s “mission Stephan” closet and confronts him as he is returning from his unpleasant encounter with Stephan. Damon lets her have it he tells her about Stephan’s victims and the fact that he is gone and it is not the first time it happens. As it turns out Stephan regresses and indulges in blood then bounces back and recovers but this wont be anytime near Elena’s life time (nod to the mortality mention) then he gives her a sympathetic regretful look and leaves .
Tyler and Caroline hook up and it was well….good but not that amazing ….I can hear the booing. The issue to me is the acting especially that of Michael Trevino at that moment in the hall, the words bobbing for apples comes to mind but the rest was quite interesting. I didn’t like Caroline leaving in the middle of the night and not staying or even waking him up as if in her mind it was a hook up and nothing more and as I was contemplating that Tyler’s mom shows up and shoots Caroline with vervain darts…OMG! she knows she is a vampire.
back at the bar Klaus attempts turning the werewolf into a vamwolf by feeding him his blood then killing him. I wonder when the werewolf is a hybrid won’t he be as strong as Klaus ?! so a)why should he listen to him and follow his rules? b) why not rip him apart to get back at all the torturing? Klaus doesn’t believe Stephan’s act and so we hope that it’s all an act but to understand Stephan one has to think of him as an addict.
Best scene: They always save the rewind-worthy scenes for last, as Stephan emerges from the bar he is teary (how I missed whiny old Stephan) and calls Elena who has her phone on silent leading every one in the world watching to scream “pick up you damn phone!” she does, she knows it’s Stephan though he does not speak and she gives him words of encouragement as he is standing there nodding his head unable to say a word. The brilliance in this scene is that we’ve been seeing Stephan as the villain the whole episode wondering if he can be saved but at that moment (with the help of the stellar acting of Paul Wesley) he shrinks into a helpless ball of emotion because he is trapped in his addiction .
What a great beginning for an obviously awesome season. I will leave you with next weeks episode promo “the Hybrid”
TVLine has announced that Patrick Dempsey ,who plays Dr.Derek Shepherd on the ABC Grey’s Anatomy, will only return for one more season. This year had some pretty game changing exists, In this time of political uprising it only seems fitting I guess .
In the light of these exists one can only remember some of the traumatic exists that left us shattered and other exists that were more than welcome.
1. Izzy Stevens Grey’s Anatomy : before leaving the show there was a lot of controversy concerning Katherine Heigl and it seemed that Heigl has grew tierd of the character and wanted to pursue a more focused career in movies. Her exit was disgraceful as a character Izzy, leaves her husband after getting laid off from the hospital abandons her friends even though Meredith begs her not to. I still miss her on the show and say what you will but Shonda Rhimes is a master in making you love a character and hate a character.
2. Charlie Harper Two And A half Men : this exist was after a long fight between the series creator Chuck Lorre and actor Charlie Sheen that ended in one of the most humiliating exist from TV when sheen was fired and replaced with Ashton Kutcher, many people will tune in for a first look at the season 9 premiere to check out how the show is going to continue without Sheen but how many will tune in after that ?
3.Vanessa Abrams Gossip Girl : you might argue that this character ,played by Jessica Szohr, is not exactly a game changing exist but for this viewer it is. This character was “a stain on every one of my good episodes” of gossip girl. I am so glad she is gone.
4. George O’malley Grey’s Anatomy: we watched this character, played by T. R. Knight, dwindle before our eyes getting less and less screen time until he got one of the most heart-wrenching traumatic exists I know. I still cry when I watch this episode in anticipation that at the end George will die horribly, brutally and barely recognizable .
5. Jenna Sommers Vampire Diaries: one of the beloved TVD characters was sacrificed at an alter (note to writers:What the hell guys?!!). Just when we were getting more and more interested in aunt Jenna played by Sara Canning, this character has been the only family for orphaned Elena and Jeremy and now we are left wondering who will be their guardian and how will they cope with a new shadow living in their house.
6.Ritta Bennette Morgan Dexter: This character’s exist turned out to be a life changing experience for our beloved serial killer Dexter Morgan. The character played by Julie Benz has provided some stability for the otherwise blood thirsty serial killer. We watched the outcome of her loss last season when Dexter for once wanted to help someone just because he can.
7. Michael Scott The Office : An exit that left most wondering will we watch? granted that the office is not lacking in talented comedians and writers but Steve Carell was the star of the show, his character Michael Scott is why people tuned in every week. This exist leaves 2 burning questions: Who will replace Steve Carell and will people watch once that happens?
8.Dr. Gil Grissom CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: the chrarater played by William Petersen engaged and entertained for years then comes the shocking news that Petersen is calling it quits to leave us wondering what will happen? hopefully it worked out fine.
If I had things my way I’ll keep all actors where they belong, but life and TV move on, as for Patrick Dempsey’s departure I have only one wish, I hope this is the last season for Grey’s Anatomy because though I love the show (despite of it all I stay loyal I can’t help it ). It is time to call it quits. As for Ellen Pompeo’s possible departure I hope she leaves too for the sake of the story and I pray to see both actors in other shows.
